I lived in Manhattan for around 30 years and three children grew up in and around Manhattan for some of this time.
Surprise! Surprise! The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade was part of our family's annual routine!
Thasnksgiving Day and the Macy's Parade also became one of my measures of climate change! Over time fewer and fewer parades were 'in the snow' ... and this year's parade (2024) relatively warm and it is raining.
On a couple of occasions I took one of my children to the overnight balloon inflation process which was always well worth the effort.
I am always a little bit curious about the role that Macy's, the Manhattan Department Store, plays in many of the iconic New York events that teke place over the year and sport the Macy name. Over the years, these events have become larger and larger and Macy's as a store is the 'same old ... same old' store. Or is it? Most likely the totality of the Macy's business of 2024 is very different od the Macy's business of around 1984 when I first saw the Parade!
This video is very enjoyable ... for me it is a great 'memory jogger' in respect of Macy's parade over a period of many decades!
