World Food Program USA. ... Ukraine Update: “Food is now a weapon in this war.” Gabriella Morris, World Food Program USA
'We all lost loved ones, relatives, houses, jobs…Everything that we would call a normal everyday life, all of it is gone.' - Andrii Khludov, Mariupol resident
Dear Peter, Innocent civilians trying to survive a war shouldn't have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Unfortunately, this is the harsh reality for nearly half of the people in Ukraine today. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is working tirelessly in Ukraine and the surrounding region to deliver food to 2.5 million affected people. Hundreds of aid distribution sites across the country are distributing staples like bread, pasta, oil and canned meat. They are truly a lifeline for hungry Ukrainian families. Wheat and other food rations are delivered to a hospital and bunker in Luhanska, Ukraine. Peter, you can help today. Your gift can power our response in Ukraine and our work in other countries affected by conflict. Will you help us reach more families in places like Ukraine by giving a gift today? You can make a lifesaving difference to those who need it most.
'We've already cut rations to over 8 million people down to 50%. Imagine telling your child, 'I can only feed you half of what you need to have a healthy diet'…We're taking food from the hungry children and giving it to the starving children.' - David Beasley, executive director, U.N. World Food Programme, interviewed on 60 Minutes about the global impact of the Ukraine crisis
The U.N. World Food Programme is determined to scale up to reach 6 million people in Ukraine and the surrounding areas within the next three months – but our budget is already constrained and we need more resources. The obstacles are significant. Cities in eastern Ukraine are currently under siege, preventing our convoys from reaching people who need food the most. Ports in Odesa are also closed, making imports and exports nearly impossible and straining our global operations. But we're not giving up. Because families are counting on us for the food they need to survive. And we need you with us in this critical moment – so that we can deliver food as quickly as possible to people going hungry. Please, make a lifesaving gift today to help bring food to the people of Ukraine and the millions of others who are affected by this crisis around the world. Sincerely, Gabriella Morris Chief Philanthropy Officer World Food Program USA P.S. The U.N. World Food Programme's emergency response in Ukraine — powered by our community of supporters — was featured recently on 60 Minutes. You can watch our interview with CBS' 60 Minutes Scott Pelley in Odesa, Ukraine, about the ripple effects of the war on global hunger and supply chains on our website. Our Future Begins With Food. With the support of people like you, we can do good better.
