Pekka Juha Tapio Korpinen (born October 8, 1944 in Helsinki ) [1] is a Finnish political scientist and urban planner . He served as Deputy Mayor of Helsinki for Urban Planning and Real Estate from 1991 to 2007 [2] .
Korpinen graduated as a student in 1963, with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1967 and a licentiate in 1973. He received his doctorate from the University of Helsinki in 1981. Korpinen was a visiting researcher at Stockholm University in 1971 and Cambridge University in 1978. [1]
Korpinen was a researcher at the Bank of Finland from 1967 to 1971 and an office manager from 1971 to 1972, and a secretary to the Prime Minister in 1972. He was the head of the Labor Economic Research Institute in 1973–1982 and 1985–1991. 1982–1985 Korpinen was a member of the Board of the World Bank . [1] In 1990, Korpinen led a UNDP team to prepare the first investment and economic program for Namibia , which was then becoming independent .
Korpinen has studied crises and economic cycles. His writings have left their mark on, among other things, the Finnish debate on devaluation cycles. His pig cycle, which describes house price fluctuations, also became famous for predicting the collapse of the early 1990s.
Korpinen is a Social Democrat . He was a member of the SDP Party Council from 1975 to 1978 and a member of the Party Committee from 1990 to 1993. [1]
Korpinen spends part of the year in Rome . [2] He is an architectural enthusiast and a hard-working urban culture debater.
