Peter Burgess COMMENTARY

Peter Burgess

My long time interest is in management metrics ... metrics that have the rigor of conventional financial accounting and reporting, but coherent and comprehensive covering social impacts and environmental impacts together with all the related capitals and changes in capital. I used to call my efforts Multi Dimension Impact Accounting, but now refer to it as TrueValueMetrics.org. My thinking on these matters goes back more than 40 years when I first became involved with development planning and humanitarian assistance with the World Bank and the United Nations, I concluded then that better management metrics were needed and simply assigning money values to social issues simply added another level of obscurity which we did not need ... rather we wanted to see progress and movement of metrics that were meaningful. Hope this is helpful. Peter Burgess
