I met Zahid (with Chris Macrae) in New York shortly after Business Fights Poverty was launched. I was really pleased to see an initiative that aimed to encourage business to be a positive factor in socio-economic development and responsible corporate behavior. It is quite a long time since then ... and I am very disappointed at the very small amount of progress that has been made to improve corporate behavior. In the main, corporate behavior still has a singular focus on profit performance and very few companies have a meaningful commitment to doing well in a balanced way relative to society, environment and the economic results.
