Convict Trump (via MoveOn) April 6th 2023 ...9:47 AM Dear MoveOn member, As Donald Trump was being arrested and charged with 34 felonies on Tuesday, Marjorie Taylor Greene compared him to Jesus and Nelson Mandela.1 Yes, that's right. 'Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today. Nelson Mandela was arrested, served time in prison. Jesus was arrested and murdered by the Roman government,' Greene said outside the courthouse, where she was joined by none other than George Santos.2 Republican Senator Lindsey Graham went on Fox News and pleaded with viewers to 'please help President Trump.'3 He asked Trump supporters to give 'five or 10 bucks' or 'just pray' if they couldn't donate.4 While the right falls all over themselves to defend Trump, who was indicted for deceiving voters, Trump is raking in campaign contributions, raising $7 million since the indictment was leaked last week.5 Peter, as Trump builds his war chest and uses that money to spread lies and misinformation and campaigns for a second term in the White House, we need to fight back with the clear message that Trump is not above the law, and he cannot be allowed to use his power and privilege to avoid consequences any longer. MoveOn has been leading the charge to hold Trump accountable for years, from organizing massive rallies to call for his impeachment to fighting the white supremacy powering the MAGA movement to running millions of dollars in ads highlighting his corruption and criminality. And we need to redouble our efforts right now. The judge in Trump's case, Judge Juan Merchan, had to take the extraordinary step of instructing Trump to 'please refrain from making statements that are likely to incite violence or civil unrest.'6 Trump's campaign responded to his arrest for 34 felonies by putting a fake mug shot on a T-shirt.7 The 'Official Trump Mugshot White Cotton T-Shirt' identified Trump as the '45-47' U.S. president, suggesting he already has the 2024 election in the bag.8 In addition to the New York indictment, Trump is the focus of three other criminal investigations stemming from his attempt to overturn the 2020 election results and his theft of classified documents after leaving the White House. While the prosecutors and Justice Department do their work, we have to win in the court of public opinion. And that means piercing through Trump's lies and conspiracy theories to convince people that Trump is not above the law and must finally be held accountable. From putting up a billboard outside Mar-a-Lago declaring 'TRUMP IS NOT ABOVE THE LAW' to using MoveOn's social media megaphone to reach millions of people with viral memes and videos to organizing rallies demanding that Trump be held accountable to fighting MAGA extremists, MoveOn will work tirelessly day in and day out for as long as it takes to finally bring Trump to justice.
