Benefit Corporations (B-Corp)
Not all jurisdictions in the United States allow incorporation as a 'benefit' corporation.
In my experience managers of for profit organizations have been concerned that they are constrained from 'doing good' when it is likely that doing good will degrade theire profit performance. Accordingly they have welcomed the idea of the 'benefit corporation' where it becomes possible for the mission of the organization to include doing good even where it iwll degrade profit performance.
Certified Benefit Corporations
Certification is provided by B-Lab according to an evolving standard. It is valid for two years. The certification is available no matter what the form of organization and the jurisdiction of the incorporation.
