Challenges In spite of the real progress we have made in 2016, we accept the scale of the challenge we have set ourselves. With so many important capital markets players, initiatives and developments across the globe with which we would like to actively engage, our resource constraints limit our capacity. The complexity of the corporate reporting system remains an obstacle to better reporting, underlining the importance of the continued work of the Corporate Reporting Dialogue. And whilst investors are increasingly engaged, it will take time to bring about real behavioural change that builds the bridge between better reporting and better capital allocation.

Of many hundreds of diagrams that attempt to describe sustainability, this one has more of the elements that are relevant to TVM than most
The diagram has many of the flows that are important for understanding how the system works, but there is still not enough clarity about the ideas of BEGINNING STATE --- THE ACTIVITIES FOR A PERIOD ... THE STATE AT THE END OF THE PERIOD.
Accordingly this diagram does not help enough in giving an easy way to measure PROGRESS where PROGRESS is the IMPROVEMENT in STATE fom the BEGINNING of the period to the END of the period

Further comment:
On the left hand side, 'biosphere' and the 'lithosphere (materials)' are shown which are similar to the segmentation of NATURAL CAPITAL that is used in TVM. There is nothing to indicate that these change as a result of the activities within the system.
There are no flows shown for the flows out of and into SOCIAL CAPITAL or ECONOMIC CAPITAL though 'people' and 'capital' are shows as bubbles in the center.
Employment and wages as well as investment and dividends are flows that end up in the community ... but it is not clear what sort of entity a community is. in TVM there is the concept of LOCATIONAL CAPITAL (LC)
Taxes and regulations are flows associated with government in this diagram.
Energy and materials seem to flow from the biosphere and the lithosphere through SUPPLIERS for energy and materials into PROCESSES and then out as products and services to CUSTOMERS.
There are waste and emissions from PROCESSES and more waste from the customers

The challenge is to number this easily, meaningfully, at low cost, quickly. A big first step is to get some meaningful measures / indicators of the absolute scale of the impacts on ALL of the CAPITALS

Supply-chain-and-sustainability Global supply chains play a critical role in many of the most pressing environmental stresses and social struggles identified by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Responding to calls from the global community, companies are adopting a variety of voluntary practices to improve the environmental and/or social management of their suppliers’ activities. We develop a global survey of 449 publicly listed companies in the food, textile, and wood-products sectors with annual reports in English to provide insight into how the private sector contributes to advancing the SDGs via such sustainablesourcing practices. We find that while 52% of companies use at least one sustainable-sourcing practice, these practices are limited in scope; 71% relates to only one or a few input materials and 60.5% apply to only first-tier suppliers. We also find that sustainable-sourcing practices typically address a small subset of the sustainability challenges laid out by the SDGs, primarily focusing on labor rights and compliance with national laws. Consistent with existing hypotheses, companies that face consumer and civil society pressure are associated with a significantly higher probability of adopting sustainablesourcing practices. Our findings highlight the opportunities and limitations of corporate sustainable-sourcing practices in addressing the myriad sustainability challenges facing our world today.
