WHY IS THIS?
Simply put, it is a failure of leadership at many levels.
For most of human history knowledge was quite limited, and people did not know how to make ... mainly grow ... all the things they needed for a better life.
In recent years ... that is the last 200 years, and especially the last 40 years ... our knowledge has increased exponentially and we have the knowledge to produce enough of almost everything to support a decent life for everyone on planet earth. We are not achieving this good outcome because of the way the resources ... human, natural and economic ... are managed. Mostly, decisions are made in favor of the rich and powerful with little consideration to the rest of society or the sustainability of the environment and the world we live on. It is all about the owners of wealth becoming even more wealthy. There is totally inadequate accounting and accountability for this appalling behavior. This is not new, but it is probably as bad now as it has been at any time in history.
TVM is an accounting and accountability framework that is designed to help manage for better social, environmental and economic impact in every activity that makes up our complex socio-enviro-economic system ... bringing all actors to account in a constructive way. The knowledge, the technology, the resources all exist, but they don't function in a manner that delivers the performance that is needed for sustainable progress.
