MANAGEMENT METRICS
SUPPORT IN HIGH PLACES Prince Charles (now King Charles III) and True Cost Accounting This image was circulated many years ago. I found it when I was closely following the development of 'Integrated Reporting' around 2005. Prince Charles (now King Charles) embraced a much more holistic approach to economic management than either business people and investors or right wing politicians and within the constraints of British Royalty did as much as he could to walk his talk. In his role as 'Constitutional Monarch' of the United Kingdon he has many constraints and little obvious power ... but the symbolism of his support for responsible management of resources for the betterment of people has the potential to be a 'game changer'. My own understanding of modern knowledge and technology suggests that if the world's resources were managed in an optimum way, there would be a far better world than there is at the moment. The last 40+ years with financial performance the dominant dimension of management decision making, there has been impressive increase in corporate profit performance and financial return for investors while society in general has 'flat-lined' or worse and all matters related to a degrading environment have been ignored by virtually all of leaders with any power and influence. I am optimistic that King Charles will weigh in on all of this, but in a very diplomatic manner. Peter Burgess | |||||||||
