Terrifying poll (New York Times)
Inequality Media Civic Action Robert Reich May 11th 2023 3:23 PM (5 hours ago) Dear Peter, America appears to be suffering from a collective case of mass amnesia when it comes to Donald Trump’s presidency. A recent New York Times poll found that half of all Americans say the country was better off when Donald Trump left office than when he came in — a huge jump from what people thought back in 2020, when Trump was actually in office. And this week, a Politico-Morning Consult poll found that Trump and Biden are statistically tied on the question of who did more to boost infrastructure. What? Is this for real? President Biden passed the biggest infrastructure bill in a generation. Trump spent four years promising “infrastructure week,” and never built a darn thing! Americans are desperately in need of a refresher on how bad the Trump years really were, and Inequality Media Civic Action is launching a new video series using proven effective, data-driven messaging to remind people about the “10 things you might have forgotten about the Trump years.” Will you donate $5 a month to Inequality Media Civic Action to help us educate the public and remind voters how awful the Trump presidency really was? Yes, Bob! I'll start a monthly donation right now! No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in monthly. When I see these polls showing half of all Americans fondly remembering the Trump years, it really makes me wonder what the heck is going on. Have people forgotten his family separation policy that placed babies in cages and ripped more than 5,000 children from their parents at the southern border, shipping them like cargo to distant parts of the country with no plan to ever reunite them? Or that he blocked $20 billion of hurricane relief for Puerto Rico, leaving parts of the American territory without power for almost a year? Or that he turned the presidency into a money funnel for himself and his family, securing Chinese trademarks for more than a dozen of his daughter's brands, a $2 billion Saudi investment for his son-in-law, and millions for his businesses from foreign governments? He even billed taxpayers nearly $2 million for housing the Secret Service at his properties. Or how he sparked a violent mob to attack the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn a free and fair election? During Trump’s presidency, the unemployment rate jumped from 4.7% to 6.4%. The number of Americans without health insurance rose by 2.3 million. The murder rate went up by almost 30%. And even before the pandemic, most Americans saw their real incomes fall. Now, as you know, we could throw numbers like this out all day, but to really remind people how awful the Trump years were, we need punchy, powerful videos that hook people with a story and put them right back into that feeling of chaos and insecurity they felt during the Trump years. Thanks to the brilliant artists, strategists, and producers at Inequality Media Civic Action, we’ve figured out the tricks of the trade to make videos that go viral and change minds. But to reach the number of voters we need to contact between now and November, we’re counting on your help.
