Perspective
Early in the days of the Internet, I wrote several hundred pieces on LinkedIn Pulse and a number of other platforms. Whether or not it was a waste of my time is subject to debate. My decision at the time was that I was wasting my time, and I would be better engaged doing something else.
Now more than a decade later ... or is it two decades ... I have decided to make my private thinking once again more public!
It may be no more 'successful' than the last time I worked on spreading my ideas and my own perspective of what was 'good' in this world and what was not.
In the 60+ years of my adult life I have tried to work with the best information available to me. For me, my conclusions from the available information have changed over time.
One of the biggest challenges has been to reconcile the wonderful good news of massively more powerful technology and the terrible trends in the decision making of the most of the powerful people who are in control of most of the levers of power.
Worse ... there is not much left of a thoughtful competent independent free press ... though there might be some re-emergence of these people as the year progresses and people get to think more seriously about voting in this very consequential year.
.My perspective ... the perspective of just a single person ... is that the potential of the world has never been better. This is a technical assessment. I was trained in engineering at Cambridge in the late 1950s and I know a lot about the progress that has made at a technical level in the 60+ years since I graduated! The bad news is that many big decision makers have a lot of financial power and deploy it to benefit themselves and their 'partners' in profit. When I look at the economic data and the trends over the past 40 years ... essentially since 1980 ... it is no surprise that the world's population are unimpressed by global leadership and want change. Most people do not see information that enables informed decisions but are getting 'gamed' to make decisions that 'top people' want them to make. Donald Trump and people around the world like him are past masters at this behavior ... while people like me are amateurs ... but not complete fools.
I am old with some time on my hands. I have tried to document in a clear way the massive amount of impressive legislation that has been passed by Congress during the Biden Administration. I describe it as being bigger and better than during the administrations of Eisenhauer, Kennedy and Johnson combined ... which is a pretty big accomplishment and will have good impact for the USA for decades to come.
The bad news is that the press does not seem to have much understanding of this and a lot of wealthy and powerful and influential people are likely to do all they can to keep the 'gravy train' of the last four decades chuffing along ... no matter the local and international consequences.
I am not an 'insider'. I am reasonably informed having archived a lot of information over the past several decades ... since the early days of the Internet! My hope is that I will have the energy to edit some of this material into a form that can be helpful for anyone and everyone to be better informed about how much good progress has been made in the USA and a lot of other places, and how progress can be faster and lot more fair going forward.
