campus of Howard University January 16th 1920 our Founders were young college co-eds who were bold enough to speak out against the societal ills of that time and advocate for equity and opportunity for our communities in 2024 we are carrying that Vision forward as we embrace the extraordinary power of she advocating for social justice Health 1:02 Justice and economic Justice in over 900 chapters globally as a nonpartisan organization we educate and mobilize our members as well as the communities we serve on issues that affect their access to equity safety and growth members exercise their individual rights to make both personal and political choices today we will get to hear from the sitting Vice President of the United States on how this Administration is addressing the issues that matter most to us like Affordable Health Care black maternal Health small business opportunities our vice president is a proud member of the divine nine family as a sister of alpha Kaa Alpha sorority Incorporated and all nine of our 2:00 organizations stand in unity with an unprecedented Outreach for voter registration education and mobilization to get coordinated efforts to get out the votes we are stronger together since its Inception Zeta FIB sorority Incorporated has chronicled a number of First we were the first black Greek sorority to Charter chapter in Africa in 19 48 to form adult and youth auxiliary groups to centralize its operations in a national headquarters and be constitutionally bound to a fraternity F Beta Sigma fraternity Incorporated and after today Zeta FIB sori Incorporated will be the first D9 black Greek letter organization to host the first black woman Presidential nominee 3:02 my first opportunity to meet and start building a relationship with vice president KLA Harris confirmed what I observed as I watched her from afar she is the leader that is thoughtful she is a woman who is strong brilliant and compassionate her love for this country is unmatched and her faith guides her actions she is truly a America's number one lady and my dear friend and now it is my honor to introduce the first woman to be elected vice president of the United Grant she and I talked about this visit months ago sitting together having a meeting in the Oval Office and we were T she invited me then to attend today and um and I just want to if I can I just want to thank you in front of all of the sisters who are here 5:03 um she has provided years of support and friendship and she always like everyone here knows she always shows up and I'm so so deeply grateful thank you and to everyone here it is so good to be with you to the former presidents who are in attendance to the international board of directors and to all of the fine members of Zeta Beta sorority incorporate [Applause] it is my great great honor to be with you today and and I love you back and also I I on Air Force 2 joining me is congresswoman Sydney cam lager Dove and I know here is also our dearest Mrs opal Lee the grandmother of June 6:03 te and to all of the distinguished 6:06 ladies I thank you so very much for this 6:08 warm welcome and um I will Begin by 6:11 saying a few words about our President 6:13 Joe Biden so tonight yes thank you 6:20 yes so tonight our president will 6:23 address the nation about his decision to 6:26 step down as a 6:27 candidate and he will talk about not 6:31 only the work the extraordinary work 6:34 that he has accomplished but about his 6:36 work in the next six months and so 6:40 before he does and while I'm here with 6:41 you I want to just share with you a 6:43 little bit about him based on what I 6:45 know based on personal 6:47 experience Joe Biden is a 6:50 leader with bold Vision he cares about 6:54 the future he thinks about the future he 6:57 has extraordinary determination 7:00 and profound compassion for the people 7:03 of our 7:04 country and I say that because I know 7:06 that we are all deeply deeply grateful 7:10 for his service to our 7:13 [Applause] 7:17 nation and to the sisters of Zeta beta s 7:22 Incorporated I thank 7:24 you for your incredible service to our 7:28 nation as well 7:30 you know I I know who we all are I know 7:34 who is here and I know therefore that we 7:37 share a vision for the future of our 7:41 nation a future where every person has 7:45 the opportunity not just to get by but 7:48 to get 7:49 ahead a future of social 7:52 justice Health Justice economic Justice 7:57 Just as you have laid out in this year's 8:01 theme ours is a vision of a future in 8:06 which we realize the promise of 8:09 America and I deeply believe in the 8:13 promise of 8:15 America a promise of Freedom opportunity 8:19 and Justice not for some but for 8:24 all and for 8:26 Generations the finer women of Zeta by 8:29 Beta sorority Incorporated have fought 8:33 to build that brighter 8:36 future during the Civil Rights Movement 8:39 you marched for voting rights economic 8:42 Justice and an end to 8:45 segregation for more than 50 years you 8:49 have worked with the March of Dimes to 8:51 lift up the Urgent issue of maternal 8:55 health and from the 1980s you and I 8:59 inaugurated Zeta days and I will tell 9:03 you when I was the United States Senator 9:06 I would see this group of powerful 9:09 leaders walking through the halls of 9:11 Congress in white and 9:14 blue and I always knew I was looking at 9:17 some of the most powerful advocates for 9:20 justice in 9:21 [Applause] 9:23 America 9:25 truly and of course your leadership 9:28 continued in 20 20 when during the 9:30 height of a pandemic you helped elect 9:34 Joe Biden president of the United 9:38 States and me as the first woman Vice 9:41 President of the United 9:44 States and I thank 9:47 you and now in this 9:51 moment our nation needs your leadership 9:54 once 9:55 again in this moment I believe we Face a 10:00 choice between two different 10:03 Visions for our 10:05 nation one focused on the 10:08 future the other focused on the 10:12 past and with your support I am fighting 10:17 for our nation's future and let us be 10:21 clear about what that future looks like 10:25 I know the leaders in this room and I 10:28 know the future we believe in and we 10:31 fight for we here believe in a future 10:35 where for example everyone has 10:38 affordable health 10:41 care which is why our Administration 10:44 capped the cost of insulin for our 10:46 seniors at $35 a 10:50 month we believe in a future where no 10:52 child has to grow up in 10:55 poverty which is why I help pass the 10:58 child tax credit which cut child poverty 11:00 in 11:01 half and cut black child poverty even 11:07 more we believe in a future where the 11:11 economy works for working 11:14 people that is why we forgave student 11:18 loan debt for more than 5 million 11:21 [Applause] 11:25 Americans and if you are anyone you know 11:27 benefited from that please 11:33 [Music] 11:36 testify and we are finally making it so 11:39 that medical debt can no longer be used 11:42 against your credit 11:45 [Applause] 11:48 score and it is because of our 11:51 Collective vision for the future that we 11:54 continue to fight for affordable child 11:57 care affordable Elder Care and paid 12:00 family 12:03 leave we here believe in a future where 12:07 all women and all mothers are 12:11 safe that is why as vice president I 12:14 have elevated and took on the issue of 12:16 maternal 12:18 mortality knowing that women in America 12:23 die at a higher rate in connection with 12:26 childbirth than women in any other 12:29 wealthy nation in the world and black 12:31 women are three times more likely to die 12:34 in connection with child birth and for 12:36 too long this has been a crisis in our 12:39 country and it is time that we recognize 12:43 the crisis it is in fact when I took 12:46 office I challenged every state in our 12:48 nation on this issue because you see I 12:51 said look we need to extend Medicaid 12:54 postpartum coverage from am measly two 12:57 months to a full year 13:00 and I'm proud to report whereas when I 13:03 issued the challenge only three states 13:06 offered a full year of coverage Now 46 13:09 states 13:10 [Applause] 13:15 do so I say as we work to build a 13:18 brighter future and to move our nation 13:22 forward we must also recognize there are 13:26 those who are trying to take us backward 13:30 you may have seen their agenda part of 13:32 it is called project 13:36 2025 now can you believe they put that 13:38 in writing 900 pages of 13:42 IT project 13:44 2025 a plan to return America to a dark 13:49 past they intend to cut 13:52 Medicare to repeal our $35 cap on 13:55 insulin to eliminate the Department of 13:58 Education 14:00 to end programs like Head 14:03 Start which would take away preschool 14:06 for hundreds of thousands of children in 14:08 our 14:09 communities let's be clear this 14:13 represents an outright attack on our 14:16 children our families and our 14:19 future these extremists want to take us 14:21 back but we are not going back we are 14:25 not going back 14:32 ours is a fight for the 14:35 future and ours is a fight for 14:40 Freedom across our nation we are 14:43 witnessing a full-on assault on hard 14:46 fought hard one freedoms and rights the 14:50 freedom to 14:52 vote the freedom to be safe from gun 14:55 violence the freedom to live without 14:57 fear of bigotry and Hate 14:59 the freedom to love who you love openly 15:02 and with pride the freedom to learn and acknowledge our true and full history and the freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have her government telling her what to do and in the face of these attacks we must continue to stand together in defense of Freedom we who believe in the sacred freedom to vote we'll make sure then that every American has the ability to cast their ballot and have it counted we who believe that every person in our nation should be free from gun violence will finally pass Universal background checks red flag laws and an assault weapons [Applause] ban we who believe that every person in 16:00 our nation should be free from bigotry discrimination and hate will continue to fight for equality and justice for all and we who believe in reproductive Freedom will fight for a woman's right to choose because one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree the government should not be telling her what to do you know when he was president Donald Trump former president handpicked three members of the United States Supreme Court because he intended for them to overturn roie Wade the United States Supreme Court previously the court of th good and RBG and as he intended they did well let me tell you something when I am president of the United States and when Congress passes a law to 17:00 restore those freedoms I will sign it into law we are not playing around so in conclusion to the incredible members of Zeta beta steroid Incorporated I say there is so much at stake in this moment there's so much at stake and again then In This Moment our nation as it always has is counting on you to energize to organize and to mobilize to register folks to vote to get them to the polls and to continue to fight for the future our nation and her people deserve erve and we know when we organize 18:03 mountains move when we mobilize Nations change and when we vote We Make History so let us continue to fight with optimism with faith and with hope because when we fight we win
