Climate scientists have been very conservative in their reporting for many years, that is they have reported what might be described as a concensus average. However, if they are understating the risk, and in fact the reality is just a small amount worse at the beginning, the multiple feedback loops means that the end result over years will be catastrophic. Be warned!
